Hans Lund: His Love for Poker & for His Family

Hans Lund is a poker professional who has achieved a lot since he started playing professional poker in 1977. He was regarded as one of the best poker professionals in the world until he had to leave the industry to raise his two children after his divorce from his wife in 1997. It was a great loss for the poker industry when he announced his decision to retire from his profession. However, nobody ever stopped him from doing so because of the fact that his reason for retiring was his family. Besides, his fellow poker professionals found it heartwarming to prioritize his family despite the fact that he was in love with playing poker. But then, he has returned to the industry although he has not been as active as he used to be. Nevertheless, a lot of poker professionals have been excited with his comeback. For sure, Hans Lund has been excited to return to the poker world too. Well, let's try to recall some of his accomplishments before he announced his retirement, and let's also try to know more about his plans in the future as far as playing professional poker is concerned.

Hans Lund emerged into the poker tournament circuit in 1977, and in the following year, he already earned his first World Series of Poker bracelet. The game he participated in was a US$1,500 No Limit Hold'em game. It took him a long time to win his second World Series of Poker bracelet. That was when he joined a US$1,500 Ace to Five Draw event in 1996. Nevertheless, he had always been active with his participation in World Series of Poker events between 1978 and 1996.

In 1988, he was the second placer in a US$1,500 No Limit Hold'em event of the World Series of Poker. In 1990, he was also the runner up of poker professional Mansour Matloubi in another World Series of Poker event. In 1991, he placed 19th in the main event of the World Series of Poker, and in 1992, this poker professional participated in another World Series of Poker main event wherein he ended up as the third placer.

Aside from his achievements in the World Series of Poker, Hans Lund also received awards from other major poker events. At a Diamond Jim Brady tournament, this poker professional was given the Best All-Around Player Award. He was also given an award after winning in the main event of a Super Bowl of Poker tournament. This poker professional also received a Hall of Fame watch during the peak of his career in poker.

It was in 1997 that Hans Lund announced his retirement. After his divorce from his wife, he was left with their two children. He wanted to take care of his children himself instead of hiring a full-time nanny, resulting to the cessation of his participation in poker tournaments.

Hans Lund raised his children in Reno, Nevada. Despite the fact that he retired from playing poker professionally, he still played poker at local casinos. Now, he is trying to make a comeback although he says that he plans to make a full comeback when his children are grown-ups. For now, he intends to participate in several poker tournaments but not as often as he used to do. Nevertheless, we are all looking forward to his return to the poker industry.
